NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel. Search by keywords to identify sites in particular research areas or with certain features, such as a particular location.
NSF offers Student Appointments through their Student Temporary Employment Program and their Student Career Experience Program. Student Program vacancies are posted periodically during the year. All vacancies are posted in the eRecruit system. A grade point average of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or a C average is required.

Individual postdoctoral and graduate student researchers may apply directly for a number of OISE programs. In addition, postdoctoral and graduate and undergraduate student researchers may be supported as participants in collaborative research projects, joint workshops, and other activities supported by NSF.
The East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering: 1.) first-hand research experiences in Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Singapore or Taiwan; 2.) an introduction to the science, science policy, and scientific infrastructure of the respective location; and 3.) an orientation to the society, culture, and language. The primary goals of EAPSI are to introduce students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering in the context of a research setting, and to help students initiate scientific relationships that will better enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts.
